If you’re like a high percentage of adults, including even many young adults, losing extra fat around your midsection is one of the biggest obstacles along your weight loss journey. Often, it’s referred to as “stubborn fat” because no matter what you do, it doesn’t seem to budge much. It can be maddening!
hey @michael_matthews:disqus Really hoping you could help with my confusion regarding some supps i bought & the doses. I’m at around 135 pounds now, i’m very short actually. And I figured i should take 2grms. of HMB and around 5mg of yohimbine HCL preworkout. Are those doses ok? Also, how long before the workout should i take them? I was thinking i should take them like 45 min before i do fasted HIIT. Is that ok? I also wanted to know your opinion on taking that with a l-carnitine as well, will that break the fasted state by any chance?

The lean belly breakthrough is different because it targets the root cause of your belly fat, heart disease, and diabetes. This is not some sort of “plaster”, which focuses only on the symptoms. The Lean Belly Breakthrough gives you a detailed blueprint for the permanent fixing of the underlying cause of your stomach fat and the health problems and shows you how you can eat like a normal person while feeling and looking like you erased the 10, 15, even 20 years on your chronological age.
Sugary beverages appear to be even worse than high-sugar foods. Because your brain doesn’t process liquid calories the same way it does solid ones, you’re likely to end up consuming too many calories later on and storing them as fat (47, 48).
8. Eat More Fat. Fat doesn’t make you fat. Bad nutrition and lack of exercise do. Eating fat actually helps fat loss. Your body won’t stock fat as easily if your give it a constant intake of healthy fats.
High protein intake increases release of the fullness hormone PYY, which decreases appetite and promotes fullness. Protein also raises your metabolic rate and helps you retain muscle mass during weight loss (13, 14, 15).
Belly fat can actually be very dangerous for your health, it can cause a slew of health issues from diabetes, to heart disease, sleep apnea and even some cancer. Plus it’s uncomfortable and can lower self esteem. (1)
Common food sensitivities include dairy and gluten, both of which can result in an inflammation of the gut, making it even more prone to developing more sensitivities. Addressing these allergies can have dramatic impacts on weight loss, and even mood and behaviour.
Almost! Protein helps keep you feeling full so you don’t snack between meals and can help you lose weight, especially when paired with a low-carb diet. But protein isn’t the only thing that can help you lose weight. Pick another answer!
In fact, you may have experienced periods in the past when you’ve watched the numbers on the scale fall, but still you didn’t see a corresponding fat loss in the belly region like you’d hope for. Or, maybe you’re the type who feels overwhelmed by all the available but conflicting dietary advice out there, and so you haven’t yet started to lose weight or tackle the belly fat problem even though you know you need to for your health.
Sugar and Sugar Substitutes – Yep, all of it! Try to get your sweet fix from nature, fruit (especially the belly fat burning fruits outlined above) is a great alternative to traditional sugar, which will only turn into more fat. Even worse, fake sugar will make you sick and tell your body to hold onto fat. (12)
Great article as always. Question if I may, currently I take Phoenix and Now’s Green Tea Extract to help with this stubborn fat. I’m female, 5’6″ and pretty lean, bf around 15-16%. I’m following TLS and my cardio is circuits and mostly bodyweight HIIT. So far great, my abs have gotten down to pretty good, but not quite as visible and lean as I’d like them to be, especially that darn lower ab region.
Keep your stress levels low. Stress causes the body to crave fatty foods, often called “comfort food”, and can also lead to snacking or eating when the body isn’t actually hungry. Finding ways to lower your stress levels can help you feel better and may help you lose weight faster.
Hey Angela! Walking is actually really beneficial, and there’s nothing wrong with incorporating it into your routine. Adding in some HIIT to help move the needle is a great idea. Check these articles out:
If you don’t like running, try jogging instead. Research suggests that jogging is more effective in breaking down unwanted fat when compared to weightlifting. This is a form of aerobic exercise that is extremely useful for fighting obesity and staying fit.
Work your core. When many people think of core strengthening, they think of stomach crunches. Crunches are helpful for building abdominal muscles, but contrary to popular belief, crunches won’t do much to lose the layer of fat stored in your belly, and can actually cause significant damage to the spine. Instead, try a workout routine that strengthens your whole core, like yoga, or try abdominal presses and planking.
You see, when you eat food, your body’s insulin levels rise, and it begins breaking down, absorbing, and using and storing the nutrients you’ve just fed it. This is known as the “postprandial” (prandial means “having to do with a meal”) or “fed” state, and it can last anywhere from two to six or more hours, depending on how much and what types of food you eat in a meal.
Many television ads are now pitching devices that supposedly stimulate muscles to contract repeatedly without exercise. I even saw an infomercial for an “ab belt” that claimed it does the work of 700 sit-ups in 10 minutes! The ad shows people doing various abdominal exercises the wrong way, hating every second of it, versus smiling men and women going about their days with “Ab-whatevers” strapped around them. How enticing!
How much weight can I lose with the Lean Belly Breakthrough system? Well the program is all about losing weight in a safe and consistent way. If you follow the program then you will probably lose 1-2 per week. Just losing 2 pounds makes a difference!
Thanks to the hormone estrogen, the female body likes to hold on to fat, too. A study in Obesity Reviews shows that women store fat more efficiently than men in an effort to prepare the body for pregnancy. But while it seems like women may have drawn the short-end of the stick, the stereotypical pear-shape is actually considered healthier than boasting a beer gut, because belly fat is a red flag when it comes to your health. “Visceral fat is associated with increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome,” says Harris-Pincus.
No matter how much or how well you exercise, all your efforts may come to naught if you’re still eating processed foods, too many carbohydrates, and the wrong kinds of fat. Eating right is key for any kind of weight loss success, and it’s downright crucial when you’re trying to get rid of visceral fat around your internal organs. As noted in the featured article:2
The Cure: There is no miracle cure which will reduce your belly fat overnight. And no particular treatment is there targeting only your belly fat. But in a positive note, the normal weight loss programs affects the belly fat faster than the other parts of the body because the type of fat deposited in your belly is metabolically more active and easier to lose. So don’t lose your heart. Gear up and start a strict regime to trim your tummy.
Instagram is an endless source of inspiration, but seeing all those six-packs staring back at you can make you feel really self-conscious if you’re struggling with a little belly fat. Remember that we all have a little squishiness, and it in no way measures what an amazing person you are. It’s also OK to want a slimmer middle; just be sure you’re going about it in a healthy way and setting realistic goals. Talk to yourself the way you’d talk to your best friend. Be positive and love yourself along your journey to a flatter tummy.
If your testosterone levels are high—something that can occur with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)—you might have difficulty losing weight. “If you’re an apple shape and overweight, it’s a good idea to see your doctor,” Dr. Kashyap says, since there may also be a chance that you are prediabetic or diabetic.
If this is you, not to worry! With a little education and direction, you can have the abs that will have other people wondering what you do to look so good in your tight clothes and midriff revealing shirts.
The way bodies distribute fat is largely beyond control and can be dependent on several factors (genetics, menopause, etc.). What is within your control is your level of body fat overall — if you keep that low, it won’t really matter where the fat goes, as there won’t be much fat in the first place.
Another noteworthy benefit of heavy, compound training is the simple fact that most people find it more enjoyable than high-rep, “feel the burn” workouts, and more enjoyable workouts means better long-term compliance and progression.
Experts say there are five genes that play a role in belly fat. So in some sense, you are stuck with what you were born with. However, genetics is only part of the puzzle. Your lifestyle plays a much bigger role in the size of your waist so don’t give up just because your genes make it hard. Commit to a healthy lifestyle and rest should follow!
